Answers That Travel to You

When your horse is uncomfortable, not quite moving right, or facing an uncertain change in behavior, you want more than a guess—you want answers. At Rocky Branch Veterinary Services, we make it easier to find those answers by bringing advanced diagnostic tools and expertise right to your horse’s environment.

With over two decades of equine-focused veterinary experience, Dr. Toby Sheely combines digital X-ray, ultrasound, and complete clinical evaluations to uncover what’s really going on—whether it’s a mild lameness, a soft tissue injury, or part of a prepurchase decision.

You don’t need to haul to a referral hospital or wait days for results. Diagnostics should work for you—and your horse.

The Importance of Equine Imaging

Modern imaging plays an important role in caring for horses of all disciplines and life stages. With mobile technology, these tools are now available without leaving the barn.

Digital X-rays and ultrasound help identify the root of lameness, confirm suspected injuries, track healing progress, and assess horses before purchase. But tools alone aren’t enough—experience matters too.

When you work with Rocky Branch Veterinary Services, you’re getting both. Dr. Sheely brings a thoughtful, thorough approach to every appointment, taking time to interpret images clearly and walk through the findings with you.

Our Diagnostic & Imaging Services

Our mobile diagnostics are designed for clarity, convenience, and calm. We aim to reduce stress and increase understanding—because your horse deserves both.

Digital X-Rays (Radiography)

Quick and detailed, digital radiography gives us a sharp look at bones, joints, and hoof structures. X-rays are reviewed on-site so you don’t have to wait or wonder. Common uses include:

Evaluating arthritis or navicular changes

Assessing hoof balance and angles for farrier coordination

Diagnosing developmental joint issues in younger horses

Supporting prepurchase decisions

Images are stored and shared easily when follow-up or referral is needed.

Ultrasound

Quick and detailed, digital radiography gives us a sharp look at bones, joints, and hoof structures. X-rays are reviewed on-site so you don’t have to wait or wonder. Common uses include:

Diagnosing tendon or suspensory injuries

Monitoring joint swelling or effusion

Identifying reproductive status or uterine health in mares

Locating fluid or abnormalities in the abdomen or thorax

Documenting healing progress over time

Ultrasound is non-invasive, and most horses tolerate the procedure very well.

Lameness Evaluations

Some issues are straightforward—others require a deeper look. Lameness evaluations combine a physical exam with movement assessments, flexion tests, palpation, and diagnostic blocks. When imaging is needed, we have the tools on hand to move forward immediately.

Each case is approached with patience, precision, and care. Our goal is always to get you real answers, not vague impressions.

Prepurchase Exams

A sound, well-matched horse is a joy to own. A prepurchase exam helps ensure that what you see—and what you feel—is what you’re getting. These thorough evaluations include:

Vital signs and general health review

Limb and conformation assessment

Hoof condition and movement analysis

Neurological screening and flexion testing

Optional imaging based on findings or buyer request

You’ll receive an honest, practical assessment from Dr. Sheely, helping you choose with confidence and clarity.
